TRAFFIC SAFETY STUDY FOR THE STATE ROADS
REPUBLIC OF SERBIA
The main goal of the study is to provide solutions that contribute to the improvement of all dangerous and high risk places on public roads, and raising the level of traffic safety on the state roads sections.
As a part of this service, analysis of the global situation and trends in road safety, with particular reference to the situation in the European Union was undertaken. Global situation and trends were compared to the current traffic safety situation in the Republic of Serbia, with special reference to year 2012 (2013). Basic road safety indicators trends on the state roads were analyzed for the 10-year period. Spatial analysis of traffic accidents on the state roads, with distribution of accidents on the roads, was also done and GIS database developed with spatial distribution of accidents on the state roads.
Using GIS database, comparative analysis was done for accidents that occurred on state roads “in the settlement” and “outside of the settlement”. Road sections were ranked according to the collective risk or “Crash density” per 100 km of road and according to individual risk “Crash risk per kilometer travelled”, most dangerous sections were identified and for them recommendations, guidelines and mitigation measures for improvement of traffic safety on state roads were provided.
