The project involves the creation of a Conceptual Design which should define the concept of the "green path" infrastructure facilities for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The concept of "green paths" implies a step forward towards a new "green" approach to projecting.
The "Green Path" from Petrovaradin to Beocin was designed based on the model of similar projects implemented in the countries of the European Union, the United States of America, etc.
The purpose of the project is the implementation of activities on the preparation of technical documentation - Development of a Conceptual Design for the transformation of the public railway Petrovaradin - Beočin, into a "green path" for pedestrian and bicycle traffic in the area of the City of Novi Sad and the Municipality of Beočin. The "Green Trail" is intended for recreational, sports, cultural, tourist and other service activities for the citizens of Novi Sad and Beocin, as well as for tourism.
In addition to the transformation of an abandoned railway line into a path for pedestrians and cyclists, the concept of "green paths" also implies that railway stations and other railway facilities that are no longer in use should be turned into museums, catering facilities, facilities for tourist accommodation, bicycle rental, info centers for tourists and others.
The transformation of the public railway line into a "green path" was done exclusively within the abandoned railway corridor, which was confirmed through the planning documentation of the area in question. The compatibility of that transformation with the surrounding planned purpose of the space was also considered.
It is believed that the new walking and cycling route will affect the revitalization of the area it passes through thanks to the increased number of visitors, thus providing opportunities for the development of sports, commercial and recreational facilities.
The 17.5 kilometer long railway between Petrovaradin and Beocin (the section of the railway from Sremska Kamenica towards Popovica and Bocke) will be a favorite with walkers, because the route leads to the Danube, with an excellent view of Novi Sad.
